＜Open Call Project SOCIAL DIVE＞

Artist duo, Fumiharu Sato ＋ Hiroko Haraguchi will present a new video installation in the Hibiya Library and Museum located within Hibiya Park. While Hibiya Park is known as a leisure spot for local citizens, it is also a place in which we can experience the history of Japan’s modernization. Ever since it was opened in 1903 as Japan’s first Western style park, it is linked to the course of Japan’s social changes after the Meiji era, such as, a space for democracy movements of the Taisho era, Masu Sueda’s child education system, as military land, and more. For this artwork, the two artists will research the history of Hibiya Park, and will draw from the many objects and descriptive panels located throughout, as a video piece to be created.

When we try to tell someone something we know, how accurate can we convey it? By gathering the texts dispersed throughout Hibiya Park, we will consider together with participants the vagueness of this place’s history and memory, as well as the difficulty of conveying ideas altogether.
