＜Tokyo Biennale 2020 SOCIAL DIVE Artist-in-Residence Projects＞

“A Painting For A Family Dinner” is a broad socially engaged artistic initiative, developed in different cultural contexts and continents. It started in Bat-Yam, Israel in 2008. It was then continued in the Bronx, New York, USA in 2012, Beijing, China in 2013, and Lecce, Italy in 2013.

For “A Painting For A Family Dinner” project, we place a call to local residents for participation through media and social networking sites using the below text:

“Husband and wife artist team are offering a painting in exchange for an invitation to a family dinner. As a result of the current situation, the artists will meet with families for dinners remotely via zoom. ”

When families respond to the call for participation, we visit as many homes as possible. Participation is based on a first-come first-served basis. There are no guidelines for our interactions, and we are open to any discussions that arise. We create a painting for each occasion in advance. Each painting is a still life with fruits and “Thank You for Your Dinner!” written in the middle. At the end of each dinner, all participants are seated on a family couch, with the painting hung above the couch, for a family portrait to be taken by a photographer. The painting stays with the family.

Alina Bliumis (Artist)
Alina Bliumis is a New York-based artist. Alina received her BFA from the School of Visual Art in 1999 and a diploma from the Advanced Course in Visual Arts in Fondazione Antonio Ratti, Como, Italy in 2005. Alina often collaborates with Jeff Bliumis, their collaboration having started in 2000.
Alina has exhibited internationally at Musée national de l’histoire de l’immigration, Galerie Anne de Villepoix, MAC VAL – Musée d’art contemporain du Val-de-Marne (Paris, France), Centre d’art Contemporain (Meymac, France), the First Moscow Biennales of Contemporary Art (Moscow, Russia), Busan Biennale (Busan, South Korea), Assab One (Milan, Italy), the Bronx Museum of the Arts, The Jewish Museum, James Gallery, The Graduate Center CUNY (New York, USA), Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland (Cleveland, USA), Museums of Bat Yam (Bat-Yam, Israel), Saatchi Gallery, Victoria and Albert Museum (London, UK), Botanique Museum (Brussels, Belgium).

Jeff Bliumis (Artist)
Jeff Bliumis is a New York-based artist. Jeff received his BA from Columbia University in 1980 and went on to attend University of California, Berkeley, California School of Arts and Crafts, and The New School, New York.
Jeff has exhibited internationally at the First, Second, and Third Moscow Biennales of Contemporary Art (Moscow, Russia), Busan Biennale 2006 (Busan, South Korea), Assab One (Milan, Italy), the Bronx Museum of the Arts, The Jewish Museum, James Gallery, The Graduate Center CUNY (New York, USA), Museum of Contemporary Art (Cleveland, USA), Galerie Anne de Villepoix (Paris, France), Centre d’art Contemporain (Meymac, France), Museums of Bat Yam (Bat-Yam, Israel), Saatchi Gallery, and Victoria and Albert Museum (London, UK).
